The Red Room

The Red Room is certainly unique in its kind, so different from the predominant Lombard Baroque in the rest of the building: the Pompeian red walls, the dark wood paneling, the gilded coffered ceiling and the neo-Gothic decorations see the triumph of the elegant symbolist and decadent taste of the late nineteenth century.

The restoration project supported by  Fondazione Augusto Rancilio involved six expert restorers who intervened on all the constituent elements of the room, particularly complex due to the variety of materials and techniques used. The intervention, which involved almost a year of work, was necessary for the safety of the decorative elements and was carried out in a purely conservative perspective.

Subject of restoration were the Pompeian red walls and the pictorial frieze of Giacomo Campi, the wood paneling and the gilded coffered ceiling, the large sandstone fireplace, the stucco decorative elements, the doors and the windows. The decorative frame in Macchiavecchia marble of one of the doors was also reconstructed, which was stolen in the summer of 2014.

Lastly, four chandeliers were made ad hoc for the room, which allow it to be used even during evening and night events. To illuminate Art and Culture in Villa Arconati-FAR, E.ON's "100% renewable energy" energy was chosen, sustainable and coming only from renewable sources, through a high-efficiency lighting system.

The restoration of the floor has brought to light a small "gem": the tiles all have the trademark of the Maurier company, which was based in San Cristoforo outside Porta Ticinese.
