MYTHOLOGY FESTIVAL
Myths, gods and heroes in Villa Arconati
After the great success of the first edition, Fondazione Augusto Rancilio presents the second edition of the MYTHOLOGY FESTIVAL.
Four new events on Sundays at 11:00 am: on May 11 with Pietro Marani “Leonardo and his mythological figures: Leda, Hercules, Neptune”; on June 8 with Stefano de Martino “The mythological poem of Gilgamesh and the search for the meaning of life”; on September 28 “The Myths of cinema and cinema as myth” with the film critic Gianni Canova and on October 5 “Myth and MIND” with Marina Brambilla, Rector of UniMi, under the artistic direction of Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, to dialogue, discuss with great names of the Italian cultural scene what “myth” is and what it still speaks to us today.
Myths are stories, but they are also representations of ourselves, of the values, vices and virtues that we have embodied for centuries.
Villa Arconati has been populated by heroes and divinities of classical mythology since the seventeenth century; it is therefore the ideal place to tell stories of beauty, art and culture, but also of love, truth and justice starting from the tales of its theatres, its statues, and its marvelous frescoes.
28/9 THE MYTHS OF CINEMA AND CINEMA AS MYTH
Massimiliano Finazzer Flory in conversation with Gianni Canova
"Cinema has a threefold relationship with myths: it maintains them, generates them, and imitates them. In other words, it keeps them alive, creates them, and imitates them.
In the first sense, cinema contributes to the maintenance of ancient myths in the contemporary world, revisiting them and adapting them to the languages of the present.
What is Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer if not a critical reinterpretation of the myth of Prometheus?
In the second sense, cinema has been and continues to be a tireless producer and generator of myths, starting with the figures that populate the pantheon of the contemporary imagination.
In the third sense, cinema shapes and defines its own identity on the model of ancient mythologies, to the point of making itself, in turn, a myth.
Gianni Canova
The "Mythology Festival" events are free, open to the public with limited places. After the meetings it will be possible to visit the Villa after purchasing the entrance ticket.
